Who Can Learn Karate?
Any man, woman, or child can learn Karate and Hapkido (special self defense techniques).
Age, sex, or fitness are not barriers to mastering this art. Training begins with simple motions of attack and defense and gradually progresses into more complex combinations of techniques and action forms. As coordination and ability improve, students are upgraded in rank and given more advanced instruction appropriate to their abilities. Fitness and flexibility improves by performing these techniques and by stretching before and after each class.
To begin, all you need is the desire to learn... It's never too late to start.
Spiritual Benefits
Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan (a brotherhood and school of stopping inner and outer conflict, and developing virtue according to the way of the 'worthy hand') is not a sport. It is a classical martial art, and its purpose is to develop every aspect of the self, in order to create a mature personality who totally integrates his/her intellect, body, emotions and spirit. This total integration helps create a person who is free from inner conflict and who can deal with the outside world in a mature, intelligent, forthright and virtuous manner.
This was perhaps best described over 2000 years ago by the famous Chinese sage Lao Tzu:
